Asian Education Network in partnership with Al-Hasan Volunteer Network recently concluded the first run of the Teacher Development Program for Teachers of Refugees in Malaysia. The program consisted of two weeks of online learning and two days of face-to-face classes. The in-person component of the training program was held on the 3rd and 4th day of March 2018 at Brickfields Asia College, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The main goal of the program is to develop the teaching and communication skills of the participants. Both innovative and traditional language teaching methods were covered in the course. The sessions were interactive and the participants shared and learned from one another with the support of the course facilitators.
The training program was attended by 15 teachers from different refugee schools and nonprofit organizations in Kuala Lumpur. One of the participants was Nur Aisyah Habibullah from Yayasan Chow Kit. She said, "This course will help me to build an extensive toolbox of teaching materials. It was so much fun and I learnt a lot."
The program was supported by Make it Right Movement and HEVI Logistics. The next run of the program is scheduled in June 2018. AEN and Al Hasan Volunteer Network are open for organizations who wish to collaborate or sponsor this program to reach out to more teachers.
